மலைசார்ந்த ஒரு குக்கிராமம். ஒரு கால்பந்து. ஏழெட்டு சிறுவர்கள். கொஞ்சம் போல விரிவாகக் காட்டப்படும் இரண்டு குடும்பங்கள். ஒரு மாடு ஒரு கன்றுக் குட்டி. ஒன்றாம் வகுப்பு முதல் நாலாம் வகுப்புவரை ஒன்றாக ஒரே அறையில் நடத் தப்படும் பள்ளி. கிராமத்திற்கு வெளியிலிருந்து வந்து தங்கி பள்ளி நடத்தும் ஆசிரியை. முக்கோண மேற்போர்வையும் துப்பாக்கி யும் அணிந்து அவ்வப்போது வந்து இயன்றதைத் தரசொல்லிக் கட்டாயப் படுத்தும் கொரில்லாப் போராளிகள். எப்போதாவது வானில் தட்டுப்படும் ஹெலிகாப்டர்கள். கொரில்லா அல்லது கொரில்லாக்களின் ஆதரவாளர் என்கிற சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில் டிரக்கில் நீட்டிய துப்பாக்கிகளுடன் வந்து, அழைத்துச் சென்று, குதிரையின் மேல் பிணமாகத் திருப்பி அனுப்பும் ராணுவம். போராளிகள் மற்றும் ராணுவத்திற்கிடையில் பயந்து பதுங்கும் பையனின் தந்தை. கால்பந்தைத் தவிர வேறு எதைப்பற்றியும் கவலைப்படாத பொடிப்பயல்கள். மலையிலிருக்கும் கால்பந்தாட்ட மைதானத் தின் அருகில் முரண்டு பிடித்து ஓடும் பெரிய பன்றி, பையன்களின் கண்ணெதிரில் திடீரென கண்ணிவெடியில் சிக்கி சிதறிச் சாகிறது. அப்புறம் விளையாட்டுக் கிடையில் அதே இடத்தில் கால்பந்து போய் விழுந்து விடுகிறது. அப்புறம்? அப்புறம் என்னவென்று படத்தைப் பார்ப்பதுதான் சிறந்த காரியம்.

ஒரு நடுத்தரவயது தம்பதியினர் நீதியமைப்பிடம் விவாகரத்து கோருவதில் துவங்குகிறது திரைப்படம். மனைவிக்கு வெளிநாட்டில் சென்று வாழவிருப்பம். அல்ஜைமர் நோய் கொண்ட தந்தையை விட்டு வர விருப்பமில்லை கணவனுக்கு. கூர்மையான வசனங்களாலும் உணர்ச்சிகரமான விவாதங்களினாலும் வன்மங் களாலும் கருணைகளாலும் இத் திரைப்படம் நிரம்பி வழிகிறது. இதன் அபாரமான திரைக்கதை பார்வையாளனை இறுதிவரை ஒரு பதட்டத்திலேயே அமர வைக்கிறது. ஒரு திரைப்படத்தை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம் என்கிற உணர்வேயே ஏற்படுத்தாமல் அச்சு அசலாக சிலர் வாழ்க்கைப் பகுதியின் துண்டுகளை கண்டு கொண்டிருக்கிறோம் என்கிற CANDID CAMERA நம்பகத் தன்மையை ஏற்படுத்தி படைப்பை யதார்த்தத்திற்கு மிக நெருக்கமாக கொண்டு செல்வதில் வெற்றி பெற்றிருக்கிறார் இயக்குநர். குழந்தைகள் முதற் கொண்டு ஒவ்வொருவரின் நடிப்பும் அத்தனை அற்புதமாக இருக்கிறது. பெர்லின் திரைவிழாவில் ‘தங்க கரடி’ விருது முதற்கொண்டு பல விருதுகளைப் பெற்றிருக் கிறது

The main character Joanna waiting in vain for a letter from her husband who is in an Oflag, gives shelter to a little Jewish girl whose mother was caught during a round-up. Thus she becomes burdened with a secret she cannot reveal to anyone, even to her relatives. Joanna knows that she cannot keep Rose with her as she is already under observation, but she fails to find a hiding spot for Rose and is forced to become the lover of a German officer in return for protection. Forced by necessity, she has to cooperate with her enemies, becoming a traitor in the eyes of "her people". The final, symbolic image is suggestive - in a tearful and religious manner - of the fact that sheltering little Roza was Joanna's personal torture referring to Golgotha. However, the deeper meaning of that story is perverse and bitter: hiding the child was even more dangerous because of Joanna's "own people", mutually controlling the patriotic decency.

I took our 12 year old daughter to see this movie and we both loved it. She was not thrilled when I told her we were going to see a film that told a story from the civil rights era but when we left she said she loved it because of the women's courage, their humor and the power of their friendships. We had never seen most of the actors which was refreshing and the acting by the entire cast made it easy to get totally involved. I laughed out loud and shed quite a few tears in The Help, and will remember it and recommend it to my friends. It was wonderful to see so many scenes in which the actors related to each other so perfectly. Even the vilest characters showed moments of conflict within themselves as they played out poor behavior that had long been inbred in them. I am especially grateful to the team who provided a film that told an engaging story about human relationships with important lessons for my daughter. That is a rare occurrence in today's movies.

ரோம் நகரத்தில் புதிய போப்பை தேர்ந்தெடுக்க வேண்டிய தருணம். பல நாட்டு கிறித்துவகுருமார்களும் அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கின்றனர். தேர்வு துவங்குகிறது. கடுமையான விதிமுறைகள் காரணமாக பலருக்கும் தான் போப்பாக தேர்வு செய்யப்படுவதில் விருப்பமில்லை. உள்ளூற பதட்டமும் பயமுமாக அமர்ந்திருக்கின்றனர். உள்ளூற இறைவனிடம் மன்றாடு கின்றனர். இறுதிச் சுற்றில் ஒருவர் பலியாடாக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படுகிறார். ஆனால் அவர் மக்களின் முன் தோன்றி ஆசி வழங்குவதற்கு முந்தைய தருணத்தில் பயந்து போய் விலகிப் போய்விடுகிறார். விதிமுறைகளின்படி புதிய போப் பால்கனியில் தோன்றாதவரை அவர் யார் என்பதை பொது வெளியில் அதிகாரபூர்வமாக அறிவிக்க முடியாத சூழல். மேலும் அப்படி வெளிப்படும்வரை இது ரகசியமாகவும் வைக்கப்பட வேண்டும். உளவியல் மருத்துவர் ஒருவரை போப்பிடம் உரையாட வைக்கின்றனர். உளவியல் மருத்து வரே ஒரு வகையான depression - ல் இருக்கிறார். ஒரு கட்டத்தில் போப் அங்கிருந்து தப்பிச் சென்று விடுகிறார். அமைப்பின் தொடர்பு அதிகாரி போலியாக ஒருவரை ஏற்பாடு செய்து ‘போப்’ அங்கேதான் இருக்கிறார் என்று நம்பச் செய்கிறார். இப்படியாக படம் முழுவதும் பகடியான காட்சி களாலும் வசனங்களாலும் நிரம்பி வழிகிறது.

ஒரு சாலை விபத்து. அதைத் தொடர்ந்து ஒரு மரணம். இதை வைத்துக் கொண்டு இத்தனை அற்புதமான ஒரு திரைப்படத்தை உருவாக்க முடியுமா என்று பிரமிப்பே வந்து விட்டது. படம் எதிர்பார்க்கவே முடியாத யூகங்களில் முட்டுச் சந்து திருப்பங்கள் போல் பயணித்துக் கொண்டே யிருக்கிறது. ‘குற்றமும் தண்டனையும்’ என்று சமூகம் ஏற்படுத்தி வைத்திருக்கும் நீதியமைப்பு எத்தனை தூரம் சரியானது என்கிற கேள்வியையும் சந்தேகத்தையும் படம் எழுப்புகிறது. என்றாலும் மனிதனுக்குள் பொதிந்திருக்கும் மனச்சாட்சி அவனுக்கான தண்டனை யைத் தந்து விடுகிறது. ஊடகங்கள் வெறும் பரப்பிற்காக செயல்பட்டு எத்தனை தனி மனித வாழ்க்கைகளை பாழாக்குகிறது என்பதும் ஊடிழை யாக வெளிப்படுகிறது. ஊடகங்களில் திரும்பத் திரும்ப ‘குற்றவாளி’ என்று அழுத்தமாக முத்திரை குத்தப்பட்டு வெளிப்படும் ஒருவரை, அவர் குற்ற வாளிதானா என்று பொதுமனங்களில் கேள்வி எழுப்புவதில் இத்திரைப் படம் வெற்றி கண்டிருக்கிறது எனலாம். மிக அபாரமான திரைக்கதை. சிக்கலான நேரங்களில் அகம் எவ்வாறு செயல்படுகிறது என்பது படம் முழுக்க வெளிப்பட்டுக் கொண்டேயிருக்கிறது.

ஏன் எப்படி எதற்கு என்று எதுவும் கேட்காதீர்கள் என்ன நடந்ததோ அதை சொல்லிக் கொண்டு போகிறேன் மற்றபடி எனக்கு எதுவும் தெரியாது என்று இயக்குநர் சொல்வதைப் போல தந்தையைத் தேடத் தொடங்கும் ஒரு சிறுவனின் பயணம் எந்தவிதக் காலட்சேப பண்டிதப் பிரசங்கங்களு மின்றி இயல்பாகக் கவிதையாய்ச் சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கும் படம். புத்தியால் படிப் பால் பார்ப்பவனையும் படிப்பவனையும் சாத்துவதை விட இப்படியான வெளிப்பாடே கலைஞனுக்குக் கஷ்டமான சவால் என்று தோன்றுகிறது.
